Hello everyone,

My name is Kelli and I am a newbie to the site. My surgery date is Sept 11, 2013. I am super duper excited about it because I have waited so long for this. However, I am struggling with my pre-op diet. I substitute Breakfast and lunch with a Protein shake. Usually the gladiator smoothie from smoothie King. Then dinner is about 4 oz of lean beef, chicken or fish, one cup of veggies and one cup of fruit. I have to admit though, I have cheated by eating an extra cup of veggies or fruit or an hard boiled egg without the yolk...or I would eat lots of broccoli or raw spinach just to take the edge off. Four days into the diet I weighed myself and I only lost a pound. Now I have about 7 days to go and I am wondering if I should reschedule or is it possible to redeem myself by sticking to the diet for the remaining 7 days? Not sure what to do from here. Any suggestions and or comments is greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Kelli :)

Welcome Kelli!

At least the things you cheated with are healthy. And, losing a pound in 4 days is nothing to sneeze at. I strongly suspect you'll see the scale drop even more and quicker, too.

If I were you, I'd stick strictly to your pre op diet for the next 7 days then let your doctor decide what's best. I'd be willing to bet you lose enough to go ahead with the surgery.

Best wishes

Welcome! The pre-op is not about losing, it is about preparing your body for surgery. Get off the scale if you can, and stick to the diet. You want your liver to be in top shape for the procedure you are about to undergo.

You need to shrink your liver so you have to be struck with your diet. I don't think a few extra veggies will hurt, but from here on out I would stick to it to make sure your liver shrinks. Don't worry about the weight lose. I got on the scale today and list like 5 pounds after a 4 week palto, its wierd how the body works

Just wait till after surgery when u can only have liquids and you are hungry because they haven't filled the band yet. Thats were Im at now. It sucks!!! Looking forward to Mushies. Good luck though.
