Losing hair

Recommended Posts

Hey guys! Ever since my surgery I noticed that my hair is a lot thinner. I've been using Biotin Vitamins but I wanted to see if anyone has any suggestions that may be more effective! :) thanks!

Drink one or two Protein Drinks a day

Less Protein than is why your hair is thinning

Wait, are you EATING enough Protein? Like hard protein? Coz that has the added benefit over shakes of giving you added satiety, and helps with hunger too.

I probably eat the most Protein during dinner. I usually eat chicken or even turkey. I eat eggs maybe twice a week and veggies every day.

I usually eat Protein for breakfast (if I'm not feeling too tight in the morning), and for lunch and dinner. I have Protein first, veggies second (and with every meal) and if I have room I'll have carbs. Though I have meals where I'll only mainly have carbs (I'm Asian so I love my noodles), but I do that knowing that the carbs probably won't keep me full for long and I'll be hungry again shortly.

I eat eggs, fish, shrimp, chicken, crab, mushrooms, beef, lamb, tofu as my protein sources all which easily keep me from feeling hungry at all for about 4 hours (when I have good restriction). So between meals I'm almost never hungry because of the hard protein I'm eating. And the added benefit is that your hair should come back if you increase your protein intake too!

I am still in my pre-op nutrition appt's and since i have heard so much about Hair loss i asked her what i can do. She said i should be eating 70-90grams of Protein a day and if Im not eating that then that's why my hair would fall out. She said you can take all the Biotin you want but it doesn't replace the protein.

I rarely eat breakfast b/c I'm pretty tight in the morning and I really don't get hungry until lunchtime. I usually drink a Protein Drink in the car on the way to work or eat a kid's chobani greek yogurt (or one of those newish flips) and I've never had any hairloss problems.

I noticed that I was having Hair loss post-op. I was not able to keep in the shakes and still can't. Pre-op I did fine with them but, after it was like a switch was flipped. Since I have been out of the hospital about the last week and have been able to eat it has virtually stopped. I eat eggs (2) scrambled for breakfast. lunch is chicken or tuna. dinner is crab, chicken or tuna. Before bed if I am hungry I lick on a spoon of Peanut Butter. From time to time I alternate with cottage cheese instead of eggs for breakfast (cholesterol reasons) or mashed potatoes (for carbs) at lunch with a few chunks of crab. I only had surgery 4 weeks ago and do find it difficult to get in all Protein required. My hair loss has improved so much though. 2 1/2 weeks no protein was rough on my body. Increase protein and it should stop.

More Protein and Omega 3's in your diet will help. I lost 176 prior to getting banded and I started to lose my hair but when I started watching my protein intake and kick up the omega 3's in my diet my hair got thick and healthy. To figure the amount of protein you need per day multiply your weight by .3 and it will give you the amount you need per day. I try an get more than that each day and I always drink a Protein Shake after my workout. Good luck!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
