Ice Cream! Blue Bell's No Sugar Added, LF Dutch Chocolate

Recommended Posts

I have to admit, I cheated a bit over the Labor Day weekend...but not nearly as badly as I would have before my surgery. I still made decent food choices and the one indulgence I had to have was ice cream. I still made a great choice though - Blue Bell's No Sugar Added Dutch chocolate is a dream come true! If you were to have it in a blind taste test, you wouldn't know that it wasn't regular ice cream and here's the kicker...it's low fat, 90 calories and 4g Protein a serving! I hate I have a 1/2 gallon of it in the freezer though, I could honestly see myself polishing that off in a week's time. I will show some restraint but I have to admit that it is my new addiction - that stuff is amazing to say the least!

The ice cream sounds WONDERFUL. Although, sugar free or not, it would still be a controlled substance in my house; don't think I could keep 1/2 gallon in the freezer  I don't know that I would/could stick to 1/2 cup, only.

Thus I only go out to get fat free sugar free frozen yogurt! Once in a while I buy some of the WW frozen treats that are 90-100 calories each, thus Portion Control is taken care of for me. Well on that note I need to head off to the gym shortly.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
