Fill diet changed

Recommended Posts

Had another fill Friday, and they told me that they changed away from the two days of liquids and two days of mushies after a fill. They now wanted me to eat my regular diet. I. Was just curious if anyone else's provider had changed the protocol recently.

Oh heck no. Now I'm not saying you have to do 2xclear and 2xmush, however, there is not way I would go straight to a normal diet after a fill. No matter how big or small of a fill I get, I always feel slight restriction. I've had the unfortunate experience of an overfill, and simply drinking Water exasperated the band from tight to occluded.

Sorry, but to be safe... try fluids first. Move into some full liquids like Tomato Soup next. If you get an early a.m. fill and all goes down by evening, I would go to mushies. Next day, fluids to start and open the band up but maybe a chicken noodle Soup equivalent to 'test' solids and than solids if all passes.

There is absolutely no need nor benefit to being so aggressive after a fill

I experienced the same thing at True Results Dallas. The crazy thing is when I went in for another fill a month later a different NP said 2 days liquid, 2 days mushy. Not sure if she got the memo! I decided to compromise and do 24 hours liquid, then a mushy meal, then try solids. Worked for me.

I didn't but my best friend who is banded said that when she got her last fill, they told her the same thing and she ate a regular diet and has been ever since and has had no problems. That was earlier this month. I don't know. Whatever works I guess.

I've been eating regularly after a fill. I do chew the heck out of everything I eat so it might as well be liquid or mushy lol. Anyway, I have had no issues yet but I am very cautious with what I eat.

Ever since I was banded in Jan 2012, my doc has always said "start slow, soft foods for today, and regular tomorrow, just take it slow and easy."

That is basically what I get told too.

Varied protocols aside, it makes sense to be prudent after a fill of any size. The banded area is re-traumatized and needs some resting time. Listen to it. After my 2nd fill last week, I knew instinctively to baby my band. Even if the team had said "Hey, new protocol...go out and eat a hamburger!" I would have prioritized what my band was telling me and not what the team was. It was obvious to me that I needed to coddle my band with liquids the first day, mushes the next and in fact it is only today (five days post fill) that my band is telling me that small bites should be fine.

I wonder why the protocol changes.

Hi Ladybandito. Every time I get a fill, I stay on liquids for 24 hours. Then, I go back to my regular diet. However, if solid food is causing me any trouble, I immediately turn to mushies.

You should ask them on your next visit. I'd like to know myself.

Went for another fill this week and they changed the protocol back to 2 days liquids 2 days mushies. I asked why the two changes and they said that the protocol was developed by their director in Australia, and it worked fine there. However, it apparently was not working for the American patients. Not sure what that says about us as Americans.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
