YadairaD 25 Posted August 30, 2013 I was banded yesterday, other than discomfort in my shoulders and some pain when I get up/Lay down I am doing really really great BUT I just tried to cough and it felt like I was being stabbed over and over again. Is there a way top lessen the pain of coughing?
Graceful One 4 Posted August 30, 2013 Yes...make sure to hold your stomach - placing a pillow over it and holding tightly will help you be able to deeply cough with less pain...I'm in the same boat! 1 GuyMontag reacted to this

I did that, maybe I'm just not holding tightly enough.
GuyMontag 1,264 Posted August 30, 2013 I would cup my hand on my port area and push in while I coughed and it would help.
NiftyNinjanator 51 Posted August 30, 2013 I have a sheet folded up and put in a pillowcase. It is heavy and small, the weight pushed against my tummy helps me cough, move, etc. This is what nurses did for me when I had a c-section, I did it this time too. I sleep with it too, just resting on my tummy, I considered strapping it onto my torso, but haven't gone that far really. I am 3 days post-op and feeling much better today. Coughing isn't so bad today.
