How many calories do you eat a day?

Recommended Posts

Hi All- I am now about one month post op and feeling pretty good. I am tracking all my food through sparkpeople.com, so I can see exactly what I am taking in. My question for all of you is how many calories do you eat per day? Right now I am between 800-1100, most days on the lower end. I am eating enough for weight loss or too much? I lost about 20 pounds immediately after surgery, but now I feel like the scale hardly moves. I was hoping for some insight from all of you before I go back to the nutritionist. I am curious to know how many calories people take in the first 1-6 months after surgery and also those of you who are much farther out. I've read some scary things that happen when you are taking in less than 1200, but I don't think most days I could eat that without making poor food choices, like those high in fat. Thanks for your help!!

Congratulations on the band. I eat around 1000/1400 a day. Around 90 grams of Protein . Have you started exercising yet? That helps. Also sometimes the pounds don't come off fast but the inches do. Do you measure yourself ? I usually take my measurements around the 7th of each month. Protein fills you the best. I have a shake every day for Breakfast and I full for about 3-5 hours. I drink all day also.

My goal is 1200 but I don't always make it there. I am averaging one pound per week. Good luck!!

I've never tracked calories, as my surgeon said it was enough to be compliant with proper portion sizes and to make healthy food choices for meals.

Just guessing, for the first time since being banded, I would roughly " guesstimate " between 1000 and 1100 calories per day. The focus is on Protein first, then your healthy carb choice. I rarely finish my carbs.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
