Hi everyone! 1st I just want to thank everyone on here, you guys have been such an great encouragement ! I stumble across this website by accident while searching for information on wls. This site has really pushed me to making the first step in my new journey that I'm looking forward to! I contacted my insurance company(united healthcare) back in June about wls but never followed up. Got busy with work and school, I started weight watchers back in June and I'm trying but I really need a lil more help(lap band). My manager lost over 50lb with them and every day is track track track with her. We write the point values on everything thru out the branch lol. She has been such a great inspiration to be myself together and lose. Now I'm so ready for this journey and know that's its gonna be a be challenge... Reading people's posts on here and I so identify with them and realize that I'm an emotional eater, I'm a cancer and we are very emotional people and have struggle with weight problems all my life so food is a comforter.

So I called my insurance company again last week and had to re enroll in the program again (hopefully I don't have to start the whole six month diet thing again and they say the last few months don't count ) I'm hoping to have surgery by the end of the year. So I got my first appointment next week Sept 5th at the center of excellence in Ny Presbyterian hospital( my employer will put $1,000 in my MRA account if I go there) !!!! Hopefully everything will fall in place and go smoothly. I do have some kind of mass in front of my heart(the found it last dec and don't know what it is, and I had a PE (clots in the lungs) and I'm on lovenox but stopped a few months ago and cuz my hair was falling out and the bruising :( but just started back again a few weeks ago and bruises r back so the dr told me to stop again n get more tests done to see if I still need it and the right doses.) so some of that might be a Lil 'hiccup' in my journey but *fingers crossed* it won't be :) Reading the post and people's experiences on here have me starting to prepare for the changes I need to make and more aware of the habits I have.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
