Today wasn't the best day! Preband I was such an emotional eater! Emotions are high ...I want all the wrong foods! The good news is the band restricts my intake but I need the good food to keep up my weight loss! When I eat the wrong foods I have no room for the good ones! Then I feel guilty ... Ugh! Please tell me I am not the only one that struggles with this!

So sorry you had a crummy day; this can be a stressful time of year. Well, yet to find a nom-stressful time -- seems like life can get dialed up fast! Still, end of summer, lots going on.. I think emotional eating is how most of us got here. I am still pre-band but really working to address the issues that I know the band can't -- if possible I want to be ahead of my game. One thing I realize is that when I'm stressed I prep myself with food. Like if I have a conference call and I'm starting to bank anxiety, I eat. I use food to anchor myself, too, so if it feels like things are flying out of control I look for food to tamp things down. Then there's the whole reward system. I won't have these devices anymore -- I don't want them -- but I know I will need other outlets. Healthy rewards. Hoping to use walking. If I can walk off my feelings instead of eating them down then maybe I'll really be on to something. I hope things go well, that you get rest, etc. Do you know HALT? Don't get too hungry, angry lonely or tired!

I haven't heard of that before .. But will look into it! I am a teacher and when I get home is my hardest time of day! All I want to do is eat! I am thinking if I start walking at that time and then come in and make dinner .. I won't crave the Snacks as much! Hoping that helps! I am in counseling and talk a lot about my emotional eating! Just a bad day! Not the end of the world!

You are not alone! The first two weeks I felt like that. I just wanted to feel "normal" again. My husband works nights and I feel like I had nothing to look forward to. Usually a good meal would make me feel better but obviously that wasnt an option. After I started seeing the scale move and my clothes get looser I started feeling much better. Hang in there. It's worth it!

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
