Don't expect the band to physically stop you from eating too much. That isn't it's job. The band is meant to control your hunger and allow you to be satisfied on much less food. If you listen to your band, it'll tell you when you're no longer hungry and it's time to stop eating but it won't make you stop eating. It'll always be your job to not over eat.

Here's a link I think will help you a lot: http://drsimpson.net/fills/Lap-band-eating/lap-band-not-restriction/lap-band-and-restriction.html

Start focusing on your hunger not how much you can eat.

Best wishes.

Then you likely do need more fills if you're still hungry. You were just banded not quite 4 months ago and most people need multiple fills. Be patient and keep seeing your doctor, it will come.

If you do not have any satiety, than 2 things:

1) keep going for fills, especially since you are able to eat larger volumes and not feeling restriction

2) the vagus nerve (runs alongside the esophagus to the brain), is what sends the signal to the brain that you are full. The increased pressure on this nerve when you eat (and have food sitting in the upper pouch) is what triggers this response. However, it is not immediate. The best advice I can give is slowwwwww it down deliberately. This space between bites allows your vagus nerve to send off a signal and your brain to react. THat way you can stop eating sooner than later. Granted, you'll need sufficient restriction to accomplish this.

As the old saying goes, just because you can eat it doesnt mean you should. Limit intake to 1 cup per meal. Hungry or not you still risk complications like stretching the pouch.

Hang in there and continue w/ fills

Hi skylite4love, I completely understand what you are saying as I had my op in Feb but have only last a total of 35lb s ! I know I am making the wrong food choices but I find it so hard! (Hence the reason why I started this journey). I have good restriction so don't think I need another fill but still feel hungry! ! I really did think this was going to be a lot easier :-(

Thanks Hazelsbliss! Even if it was not directed toward me, I needed that bit of reminder myself! I have problems when I wait too long, get overly hungry, eat too fast. My head hunger is still in gear, but my band says STOP!

I gotta say, Pastelies and burgers won't give you a lot of satiety and they're not a healthy choice if you're trying to keep your caloric intake low. Also, they have a lot of processed flours and other ingredients that can spike your insulin levels causing you to be even hungrier later. jmo

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
