Getting my band September 27th!!

Recommended Posts

Just wanted to introduce myself. My name is Carrie and I am 27 and live in Wyoming with my amazing hubby and two fur kids. I have been obese since I was about 12 and my highest weight was 369lbs in 2008, I am down to 272lbs thru diet and exercise and am getting my lap band next month by Dr. Holloway in Scottsbluff, NE. Can't believe it's actually happening!! I have BCBS Illinois and was approved in 3 days after submitting my paperwork. Looking forward to getting to know y'all!

Congrats and Welcome Carrie! You're amongst friends here, if you have questions feel free to ask and of course do lots of reading. I learned so much from this forum that I had very few questions for my counselors or my surgeon - there is nothing like first hand advice from others who have already gone through the process. Just keep in mind: no two bands or bandsters are alike and try not to compare your results with others. Some of us started losing immediately after surgery and have been full speed ahead the entire time, some take time to start losing - sometimes it doesn't happen until after a fill or two. But you will lose substantially!

For now, enjoy the last of your pre-band days by eating all of the things you can think of - at the quantities you want to eat them. After your surgery, you will still be able to eat whatever you want (after you're healed of course) as long as the entire meal fits in the equivalent of a Dixie cup. LOL I have no regrets, I am happy with my decision and I know you will be too!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Anyone had the TORe procedure? How did it go? How much weight did you loose?

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
