Hi Everyone, I was banded on August 16th. Since then I've been maintaining a 500-600 daily calorie intake. I noticed now that since my swelling in subsiding I feel like I could use more. Yesterday my intake was around 700. I was wondering what some of you find as a comfortable calorie intake where you are not hungry.

Congrats on your new band!

Please keep in mind that your band is not working yet, you are still healing, if you lose weight at this point it is a bonus, your main concerns now should be about healing.

Most people get their first fill between 4-6 weeks post op. (hopefully you researched all this).

Your calorie intake sounds good for weight loss, most keep their calories between 500-1200 calories during healing.

Your band does not start working until after the fill process and it could take 3-5 fills (4-6 weeks apart) before your band is working optimally.

I think you are doing well. when I was banded I could not take in more than 300 the first two weeks. each week was significantly better. Now I keep it between 1000-1200. Protein first and then 1 cup of veggies and maybe an apple.

My Dr told me not to really worry about the calories as long as I was getting all of my Protein. I didn't keep track of calories until I was eating regular food.< /p>

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
