DUH... I'm Stoopid... Can you help me understand this Pre-op thing?

Recommended Posts

You guessed it, dry lips. I was banded in Mexico when my home state is damp almost all the time. I woke up feeling like I had journeyed through the desert. I was parched and my lips would crack whenever I smiled, ooch. I picked some up at the pharmacy when I got my pain meds but would have liked to have had it in the hospital. I went the dress route too and was very glad I had packed one. About the hernia, I think you are lucky to get all the uncomfortable stuff done at the same time. Recovery isn't fun, but you are killing two birds with the same stone. I think you will do great, take care.

Ok... now I am getting really anxious. I start the Myocel on Sunday. All day long I have been obsessing about food, and even ate a bit of cake at a graduation party.

Yikes... Two weeks... I am packed and ready, but wondering if I should eat pizza, cake, Cookies, ice cream, Grandy's, and everything else in the world before Sunday...

Good Grief... I need HELP...

My favorite broth has been vegetarian vegetable. It has a nice light Tomato flavor that reminds you of veggie Soup. It became my comfort food of sorts that first week. Warm and yummy.

Now my favorite food is pink salmon in the foil packages made by chicken of the Sea. A perfect 3 oz of Protein. Packed with love :D

Poodles,

That is the great thing about the band, you WILL be able to have all of those things again, after you are all healed. I think we all go though last meal syndrome. It's really not nessary. I had my hubby take me to Outback right before my liquid diet started and I got all weepy at dinner. I actually said between sobs, "this will be the last meal I ever get to enjoy" looking back on that night we both crack up because I enjoy our meals out just as much if not more now. I can still eat the foods I love, just much less of them. Steak is even ok, if I chew well. And I know that I was told the same thing, and it didn't sink in, but there were be other parties and cakes and goodies to enjoy, and you will be able to enjoy them. Make sure you have a great meal before you start the pre-op diet, so that you can start your liquids satisfied but don't go overboad with it. All the foods that you are talking about will still be there when you are in bandland. I am having birthday cake with my daughters preschool class this morning, it's the last day of school and she has a summer b-day so I am bringing cake and ice cream for snack, I will have some but I won't finish off the leftovers this afternoon, I will leave them for the preschool staff. ~Mandy

Ok.. so I have GAINED weight on Myocel. I guess mixing it with Soy milk is not a great idea. Literally gained 5 lbs...

I have less than a week now to lose 10 lbs. Strictly going to Water or coffee only with the Myocel and will only eat one meal a day... think that will work. HOLY COW... I will be banded on Monday!

I am scheduled for surgery with Dr. B on 6/22 and started the pre-op diet on 6/7. I had the same questions about the pre-op diet. Is it ok to eat chicken, eggs, etc.. Everyone I know who has had the surgery done (by different doctors) has been on liqueds only pre-op???

Dr. Spivak did not require that I be on a liquid only diet pre-op. He asked that I be on a low carb/high Protein diet. Nothing about a liquid diet at all. I didn't follow the low carb/high Protein diet strictly - I just had to have some bread before the band. My understanding of why they want you to go low carb is because it will shrink your liver. Apparently they have to go behind the liver in order to place the band so they want it as small as possible.

Good luck.:)

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
