Just got my band today

Recommended Posts

I had my band dine in Tuesday and felt perfect all day. ..went home Wednesday and felt some pain and gas but not unbearable. Thursday I felt fine as well...but today I actually felt really hungry. .I did notice that I didn't drink alot of Water throughout and woke up dehydrated so I think that's the problem. ...I would like to point out that while I b was being diligent about drinking water I would weigh myself every time I went to urinate and literally every time I would be down a pound....so far im down from 327lbs when I came home on Wednesday to 311lbs. So I think its safe to say drinking water helps

I was banded Aug9th and here is what I have learned- when the veterans on this board tell you to take the time to heal, you need to make you getting back on your feet the priority. My first week was so painful and I went back to work too quickly. Surgery Friday and worked a full day and two hour commute on Monday. Nothing is as important as allowing your body to heal.

I have also learned to follow the recommended stages of the diet to the t. You cannot have regular food right after surgery. Yes, you are starving but don't do it. Suck up that gross tasting broth and get thru it when you are allowed full fluids, that Protein Shake will taste like manna from on high When I got to mashies, that cottage cheese tastes like the best pizza I have evr eaten. Now I am on real food and I will admit that I am nervous. BUT, I am going to follow the lead of the veterans on this board and my doc and dietician and follow the plan. This is a lie change and I am committed to changing my life!

I had pain under my left boob and in my left shoulder. Take some Windeze, peppermint tea or peppermint cordial, move around as much as you can. If you lie on your side, this will shift the wind and you should be able to pass it. Also a hot water bottle helps. It will pass though, particularly when you start eating mushy food.< /p>

Good Luck :) x

Just had my band 2 days ago. . . The best thing I could have ever done. . . From the moment I got home I walked around my house at first 15 mins. Now I am.up to 1/2 hour. . . But my life saver has been the Gas X melts . . . I actuallu took one as soon as I woke up.from surgery. I have not experienced pain at all or any nausea or vomiting thus.far Thank you Jesus! But walking is the key at least for me ,but You will feel it in your muscles each day. . . I look at it as I'm getting a jump on my movement that they keep telling us about. . .good luck.to.all the Banders out there I lok forward to hearing and seeing all our journeys to a healthier and better US!!

It's not a plateau unless it's at least one month.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
