Any words of wisdom or advice? I'm so scared and nervous because I keep hearing all these people talking about how they don't know if they'd do it again...any input welcome!

Hi Summer,

I was banded 5/2/13. Couple things I can tell you. Drink lots of Water after, walk walk walk. The gas pain killed me. Some people do fine. The Water and walking will help. For me, the band is 99% mind over body. It's a mental challenge daily but gets easier in time. Follow the eating guidelines and do not deviate. I have a friend whom I met at my drs office prior to us being banded. She throws up daily because she doesn't follow the rules of the road with the band. Has you asked me 2 weeks out from surgery I would have said I questioned my decision. Now, over 3 months. Best decision I've ever made. Good luck to you!!!

I am one week out and I haven't questioned my decision yet but I have been saying to myself that I hope all this liquid food and feeling like I NEED to have something at least semi solid to eat is gonna b worth it. I know it will all b worth it once I am all healed and am able to eat solids again it will b, I hope. I don't want to eat things like sweets and cheeseburger....at this point, I would b ecstatic to have some chicken and veggies lol. Junk food was never my problem...guess it was my portion sizes so I hope this helps me....best of luck to u...u will b in my thoughts :)

Best thing I have done! I had none of the usual post op complaints other than a little gas, so I was very happy! You'll be just fine! Best wishes to you in your new journey,

2 months post op and I do not regret it. I am amazed how such a small amount if food keeps me satisfied and the 3-4 hours. So much easier than my past dieting. This tool was the missing link in my weightloss success. First week was hellish the gas pains killed me but after that I was back to old me. Eating in public first time was scary but you know what no one cared what I are or how little :) good luck and this forum is a great place to be as well I read lost daily to stay focused and motivated

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
