I got emotional today

Recommended Posts

I'm 24 years old and my mom has been my #1 support system my entire life. We are close and talk about everything. Today we were talking about how close I am to finally getting a surgery date and I started to cry (happy tears). This is such an emotional time for me. I've struggled my entire life with the weight loss roller coaster and I can't wait to start the journey again and this time I know the roller coaster won't be going back up hill! :)

Just be prepared to have to work real hard at this? This is not an easy way to lose weight, but if you follow the rules you have a great shot at being very healthy.

You will have good times and some bad times. This can be a roller coaster ride. You will have to learn to listen to your body and your band. Good luck!

I'm really happy for you, and completely relate to the lifetime of ups and downs (most all of us here, do).

The band is a tool. Use it as prescribed, and you will never see that needle on the scale climb to the point of (what feels like) no return.

I wish you all the best!

This is my first post! I went to see the surgeon about the lap band yesterday. I am a good candidate! I'm 44 and have been overweight for most of my 20s and 30s. I'm nervous because I'm self-pay (my ins doesn't cover) - but because I don't have any serious weight issues affecting my health, my surgery is a little cheaper. They did my surgery work-up and my EKG - so I'm a go for surgery on 9/12. Thanks for all the reading so far - very inspiring!

Congratulations for taking the step. This is my 2nd time!... First time I got half way through the insurance process and freaked out... It's taking forever but hopefully well worth it!!

Yes, I am very aware. I've worked hard my whole life with various diets/plans etc.. but none of them have been able to become life style changes. I'm one of the more mature 20 something year olds and I do not look at this as a quick fix I look at it as a tool that will help save my life. Looking/feeling better about myself is just an added bonus.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
