First post op appointment

Recommended Posts

I had my first post op appointment. Doctor was pleasantly surprised I had lost 16 lbs in a little over two weeks. Bad news: I was going to get an adjustment, he tried several times, could feel my port but couldn't get the needle in. I could feel him pushing on it and the spot is very sore. Now I need to go back on Tuesday, another day off work and a two and a half hour drive one way to get xrayed/floroscope (sp?). He said it might have flipped, but has never heard of that happening in just two weeks. Anyone ever had that problem so soon after surgery? I really don't want to have to have surgery again so soon, I really have a head time coming out of it. I used up my time off for the first one.

What a BUMMER!! Lets just hope the port is positioned in a funny way, father than it being flipped. I had a little difficulty finding my port, and the nurse just looked at the X-ray taken after the placement and was able to pinpoint exactly how it was positioned; however, that was AFTER being pushed really hard on the wrong spot.... I have a HUGE, painful black and blue. I'm hoping for some good news from your doc when you go see him next. Stay POSITIVE!

Thanks for the encouragement hot butterfly. I also got hit by a rock on the way to see my doctor and cracked my windshield (top to bottom and side to side, with several branches off the main one) on my car that I got two months ago. Needless to say I have shed a few tears, seems like it always comes at you all at the same time.

I went through a similar situation on my first fill. He could fill the port and had the needle in but it took several attempts for the needle to get into the soft spot of the port. It finally did but he said he was using a smaller needle and those are harder to use in the first fill. I went in for my second fill and he was done before i even knew what happened. I think youre ok probably just a stuborn soft spot.

I was able to get a fill yesterday. Yay! My port isn't flipped but it is tipped so they have to go in at an odd angle. Hope it stays where it is at and doesn't move more.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
