Do you have Fibro? I do know some people that have had a band and have it. But the manufacturer (Allergan) states that bands are contraindicated in

Patients or family members with a known diagnosis or

pre-existing symptoms of autoimmune connective-tissue

disease such as systemic lupus erythematosus

or scleroderma.

Also it's not recommend for anyone that needs or takes NSAID's. Due to the possibility of developing Ulcer's

That being said, I know people that have also developed Fibro after being banded. Good Luck !

I have fibro. I saw the info from the manufacturer literature, but the surgeon and my rheumatologist did not see any reason it should keep me from being banded. Right now, three weeks out of surgery I feel better than I have in a while. We will see down the road of flares are worse or better.

Anyone have lap band and also have fibro?

I have a diagnosis of both fibromyalgia and SLE (Systemic Lupus). I have been able to successfully manage my inflammation symptoms without taking any of the anti-inflammatory medications I was prescribed prior to surgery.

I have found that staying reasonably active with the moderate exercises I am permitted to do has actually helped some of my pain be managed easier than before. And the weight loss has definitely helped me to feel better with less stress on my joints.

Everyone is different, so it is important for you to discuss your concerns with your physicians prior to moving forward with your surgery.

Taking NASIDS post op could create significant complications for you, so it is in your best interests to be

prepared to give up your anti inflammatory medications.

Again, the importance of discussing your concerns with your physicians is necessary. My physicians medical opinions were pro surgery for me.

Best wishes for your health...

I also have fibro, and i was banded June 24.

I haven't taken NSAIDs for year, but rather have been on Cymbalta for probably the last 4 years.

I am sorry to hear you are struggling with your fibro pain post surgery...that was also the case for me...it started in the recovery room...not incision pain, but that whole body pain that keeps amplifying. They had to give me more pain killer before i left the hospital. I'd had the same issue after a previous surgery, so i had talked it over with my surgeon...as much as i prefer not to take anything narcotic, i took the pain meds he prescribed as prescribed to try to keep the pain from getting away from me. I found my heating blanket was a godsend for that time.

The good news has been that I'm two months post surgery, and I'm down 50 pounds since i started the pre-op diet, and i have actually decreased the dose of Cymbalta i take and am considering stopping it. I've had no real pain to speak of in the past month or so, and i am back at the gym and loving being able to do that pain free.

Before the surgery, i was feeling that my weight and my fibro were the two things that were limiting my life substantially, and preventing me from doing the things I wanted to do. During that post surgical flare up, i just kept telling myself to keep my thoughts on the future and the possibilities. The way I feel today, it was worth it.

I hope you feel better very soon...

I have fibro as well. I just restarted my cymbalta. I took it for a while but gained 20 lbs. I was comfortable restarting it because I have the band. My fibro is worse when I don't sleep and after anesthesia. I have chronic fatigue as well (although people blame it on me working 60-70 hours a week and working on my doctorate full time, which I don't agree). This has been a tough recovery.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
