SashaWLS 412 Posted August 23, 2013 I don't know that you can really make a mistake. Both are great options. That said, I chose the band because it's less invasive. I felt like why start with cutting out major organs if I could lose weight without doing that... But that's just me. :-) 2 Irishflower79 and melissag43 reacted to this
2muchfun 8,927 Posted August 23, 2013 I have two friends who also went bypass and did well. I researched everything but the sleeve and still came up with the band. For me, I felt like all I needed was something to help with the satiety and help me to eat less food. Also, I liked the idea that it was adjustable and if it didn't work out I could have it removed or revised to bypass or sleeve. Keeping my stomach intact was important to me. You have to decide what's important for you. WLS may be what you need but only you know what the right choice can be? tmf
lellow 1,713 Posted August 23, 2013 Ohhh I had sleeve envy soooo bad early on. I had a friend who got sleeved the same day I got banded, and the weight FELL off her. But 7 months later, our loss was comparable. 1 year later I had surpassed her. 5 years later, she's regained about 1/2 her excess weight and despite a leak that lasted 15 months, I have managed to keep most of my excess weight off, and today am still at more than 100% of my excess weight lost. And in April this year when they went to replace my leaky band and gave me the option of sleeve or band, I realised I now have absolutely no sleeve envy, and got another band. The decision you make should be based on risk, benefit and long term prognosis. Each wls has good and bad. Weigh those up and make the decision, because you can achieve success if you want to with any of them.
DELETE THIS ACCOUNT! 12,703 Posted August 23, 2013 Neither procedure is better than the other. It all comes down to personal choice. You have to do what is best for you. Just remember that regardless of which weight loss surgery you choose the work will always be yours to do. The surgeries are just tools not magic fixes for fat. Best wishes with your decision.
