Am I too tight?

Recommended Posts

Hello fellow bandsters,

I am a little more than 3 month post-op. I've been doing great. I've almost lost 40lbs. :-)

I had a fill on Monday of 1cc. I am now at 5.75 cc's. I was doing great until yesterday. All of a sudden I got a horrible pain in and around my shoulder blade. I took gas-x and had my morning Protein shake. I was a bit nauseous all day. Then at dinner I almost threw up. Couldn't eat much at all. I was in pain (shoulder/back) all night. I called the dr this morning asking about the shoulder/back pain. They said they didn't think it was the band or fill but said to try warm liquids today. I felt the "I'm going to throw up feeling" several times throughout the day. Lots of saliva!! Nothing came up. I can keep liquids down but am wondering am I too full? Or maybe I just need to wait it out since I can drink and eat tiny amounts. Anyone experience shoulder/back pain after a fill? Is there an adjustment period?

The thing I wonder about is your feeling nauseous... Usually too tight manifests as heartburn, esophageal pain, getting stuck. But feeling nauseous? Is there anything else you're feeling? Is it possible you might have a gallstones?

From Wikipedia:

"Gallstones may be asymptomatic, even for years. These gallstones are called "silent stones" and do not require treatment.[7] [8] Symptoms commonly begin to appear once the stones reach a certain size (>8 mm).[9] A characteristic symptom of gallstones is a "gallstone attack", in which a person may experience intense pain in the upper-right side of the abdomen, often accompanied by nausea and vomiting, that steadily increases for approximately 30 minutes to several hours. A patient may also experience referred pain between the shoulder blades or below the right shoulder. These symptoms may resemble those of a "kidney stone attack". Often, attacks occur after a particularly fatty meal and almost always happen at night, and after drink."

I ate liquids for one day, mushies for 1 day and on day 3 is when the shoulder pain began. FYI. It's on the left side. Takes my breath away!

I ate solids for dinner on day 3 and could only eat about 3/4 cup. But almost got stuck. Then I went back to soft food/liquids. I had horrible gas pain after the last fill. Dr thought my appendix had burst or gallstones. I had a ct and all came back normal. I ate mostly mushy food for dinner tonight with very small pieces of chicken and feel pretty good. Maybe I'm just sensitive because I have more restriction?

Thanks for the advice Mis73. I'll just keep calm and carry on! Maybe a nice soak in the hot tub will help the shoulder!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
