Is the inability to drink coffee in the morning and frequent stuck episodes a sign that I'm too tight? My doctors office feels this is normal but I hate it!

I was having daily stuck episodes and my nutritionist kept wanting me to try different things to see if it was the consistency of the Protein I was eating. After a week of that and being stuck for over 5 hours one day, I called and made an appointment for a small unfill. I couldn't tolerate it any more and was afraid I'd go to what worked best....the sliders....like ice cream! You know your body best and what is working and what isn't. Good luck and feel better soon!

If it were me' date=' yes I'd say I was too tight and insist on a small unfill. I'd be too afraid of a slip if I were so tight I couldn't even drink coffee in the morning.

But again, I'm no doctor and it's strictly my opinion.[/quote']

I agree. Time for a slight unfill. Thanks Missy! I always respect your opinion.

Look, at the end of the day, you're the one who has to live with the band, not your doctor. And while a doctor's advice should almost always be followed, you really can't substitute someone else's judgement for your own. Reading your post, it really sounds like YOU think you're too tight. And since there's no harm in unfilling, it sounds very sane and responsible to follow your gut.

Good luck! I just had an unfill and feel awesome. Hopefully you'll feel better soon!!

I've had the band for two years and have had two small unfills, one of them being yesterday. I told my doc I was throwing up every meal, and he said, "well something was staying down, you lost 3 pounds in the last two weeks, but if nothing had stayed down it would have been 6-7 pounds." Little does he know that I had been surviving on slider foods or it would have been 6-7 pounds lost in just the two weeks since I'd last seen him. I still have a sore throat from all of the vomiting. I won't do that again! I love my band and it has been a great tool to help me regain my health and happiness, but when it's too tight it's miserable.

Hope you're feeling better soon!

My surgeon says he is always willing to do an unfill...just say the word! He is of the "a loose band is a good band" fan club. If I want a fill, we negotiate.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
