Purging or PBing

Recommended Posts

Hello Everybody,

I had my surgery in June 2011, I lost 45lbs and seemed to come to a plateau. So I recently went to see my surgeon for a fill (I had not seen him since last year). He gave me a fill of 1.5cc which took my band to 9cc. I've been trying to watch what I eat but I'm finding that I'm either PBing or purging more than I want to. Some days I do good and other days the food just wont stay down. It's only been a couple of weeks since I got the fill so maybe I should give my body more time to get used to the band being this tight and stick to Protein drinks and soft foods. Any advice????

It seems to me that your recent fill made you too tight. If you were going to "loosen up", it would already have allowed you o eat mindfully without difficulties.

I think it appropriate to notify your surgeon ASAP to let them be aware of your situation.

When I am getting close to the green zone, with each fill I find that I need to adjust my eating habits, not wait for the band to adjust to me. After a fill I usually have a few episodes of pb's, and then I set my goal to NOT pb today, which makes me very mindful of my eating. Has worked so far... it's me learning how to eat with the band, not the band adjusting to my eating.

Do NOT rely on soft/slider foods. It is a band trap we can fall into. If taking small bites and eating slowly does not allow you to eat, you are too tight. As you think about it, just think of you are eating sliders because you cannot eat solids. When we rely on sliders, they often have more calories, and we get hungry more often.

Getting a slight unfill is not defeat.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.
