Hi. I am going to be a newbie to lapband surgery. I have only just started this road to my recovery from obesity. I am just going to see the nurse and doctor next week and I must admit I am a bit nervous about this whole thing. I know this is my last chance to regain my health. I hope all will be well with me as I have a lot of health issues that may put me at risk for this. I don't know yet. I only know I could use some propping up with a bit of encouragement. I will let you all know how I fared after my appointments next week. Thanks.

Hi Marlene it's nice to meet you. Don't be shy, if you have some questions this is the place to find some answers. There are some really great people on the site that have a lot of helpful information as well as have endured some major health and other life issues. They are a great source of inspiration and encouragement.

Know that you are not alone.

Wishing you all the best as you begin your journey.

 Hi, You have made the first move in the right direction. I hope you contact a good bariatric clinic. By GOOD, I mean positive and helpful after the fact. Question them about follow-up as I am seeing many on our forums that are asking questions that their Clinics should have taken care of long ago. There is a lot more involved than just placing the Lap Band! After having my band placed I am no longer diabetic and my blood pressure greatly improved. I walk, walk and walk! It is not the lbs. lost so much as my daily vitality and good health. I love my Lap Band!

Hello and congrats on your decision to get the band. We were all nervous when we started and I am confident we can help put your anxiety at ease. Right now you are about to enter the very early phase of getting tests done, getting education and preparing for the surgery. Nothing to worry about on this part so put your mind at ease for now. We'll talk surgery anxiety as you near that phase and we'll be standing here on the other side to congratulate you when it's all done.

Hi there, I am also pre-band -- this has been a great place to get information and support as I've been going through the process of learning everything possible. Good luck to you!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
