Low bmi fraudster!!

Recommended Posts

A guess for me it was a little different.. However just like to guys I had battled to maintain my weight for the last 15 years, constantly being on a diet. I think I can be very disciplined which helped me to continually go on diet and loose large amounts of weight. (Putting on 2, loosing 2). Only to then go and put it back on a agin.. I was slowly putting on the weight I lost last summer when I decided I could afford a gastric band.. Thought about it before but due to money and more importantly nice guidelines I was unable to have one. I had a BMI of 30 size 12/14 weight 11.12. So what I heard from friends and family was "your not big enough" "it's unethical" " there is nothing wrong with u" " u only need to loose a stone and go the gym" "your gorg as u are" Well actually that ain't the case... I was considered obese, and therefore risking my health, I had lost and gained 16 stone over the years and I am only 33.. (Biggeat being 14 stone) There is lots of obesity in my family and it was only a matter of time before I got bigger and bigger.. And what I hear from u guys so much is how u wish u had done it earlier. So for me it was prevention.. Most people apart from my hubby and my mum (who are very supportive) think I'm crazy.. Once I give them my explanation they appear to understand more.. And there are some people who think its a great idea.. So just because I had my band fitted at bmi 30 doesn't mean I don't understand everything I hear u guys talk about.. My mind works in that same way. I've often referred to myself (when slimmer) as a fat person in a slim persons body!! So please don't see me as a fraud I am here with the same battle as yourselves, I just have a little leas to loose. Xx

Hello,

I posted a similar response to a woman who wanted to know if she should get the band and she too was lower BMI.

I see exactly what you are saying and agree. I too was BMI 30 (once) and it just kept going up despite my efforts to lose.

There is something god awful about having to weigh enough (and usually obese/morbid obese) before insurance will do anything about it.

I even know people who will gain to meet the bmi 40 requirement, how insane is that?

Here in the US preventative medicine is not our forte although there are changes being made to instill that approach. Unfortunately we need insurance companies to tag along lol.

Good luck on your adventure..you are not a fraud lol

Thank you for your response.. I Did have to pay privately for the band.. Cost about $8000 but well worth it.. As I plan on saving $250 a month on food!!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
