Pills/Capsules, problems???

Recommended Posts

So I know surgeons say no pills, they have to be crushed or try to get the med in liquid form. Usually I can get liquid but recently I was prescribed a med that only comes in a capsule. They are pretty small and I opened one and sprinkled it on some applesauce but yuck!!! :-/

My doctor's office just said the size of a baby aspirin. So has anyone had any issues swallowing small pills or capsules including cutting larger pills in half or 1/4's instead of crushing them?

Banded April 12th

I rarely take any meds....but if I need to, I can take a pill the size of a 200mg motrin/advil without much difficulty....just one at a time with some coffee or something.

One pill I take is diamond shaped and I can split it into two pieces. Others including capsules I have not issue with as long as I take one at a time with a little Water and wait for about 1 minute between pills.< /p>

Capsules are designed to melt at body temp, so those should not be an issue. I tried crushing one of my meds, and it was so bitter that nothing masked the taste. I had to just cut it into smaller pieces to get it down.

I have some small Iron tablets that I can get down with plenty of fluids both before and after swallowing the pills.< /p>

Hello

I have taken all sizes, last being an antibiotic the size of my foot geesh. I hate pills. However, when I do take them I make sure that I drink before hand and with them to ensure the band is open first and it'll slide through. Also, if timing isn't an issue, try not to take them first thing in the mornign when most of us are at our tightest.

Last comment, PLEASE make certain any pill you open and/or crush can be done so. It is dangerous to do it to time release meds. Just ask the pharmacy or have doc specificaly prescribe meds that can be crushed/opened.

I've never had trouble with pills of any kind. I can take a daily multi without cutting or crushing it.. Only the first couple of months post op did I make adjustments.

Thanks everyone, I'm glad that none of you have experienced any problems with this. Luckily I rarely take meds but the one I need is an antibiotic so I just want to be done with it. I did ask the pharmacist when I got the rx if it was ok to open and sprinkle on something and she said it was fine, I just absolutely cannot stand the taste!! Since its so small I will probably just try to swallow it whole, using a warm liquid like coffee is a great idea. Thanks again! :)

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
