My surgery is 8-26, at 2:30 pm. My boss and I had agreed that I would take three days off work and then work from home for two days. He's changed his mind and said that now I have to take vacation or sick time, which I can't use anymore because I have to use it for fills in the future months.

He's also told me that he will need me to travel for business on 9-3! Help! I have no clue what to do? Will I be well enough to travel 5 hours away a week after surgery?

You likely will be able to as long as there aren't any complications. A week after surgery I was doing fine.

What about going back to work three days later?

I worked from home the next day and did fine. I went on a 500 mile round trip on a Harley at day 17. You should be fine. Just be sure to get up and walk especially with travel to prevent blood clots. I was off pain meds day two as the pain was totally tolerable. Good luck!

Talk to your surgeon and ask him it's ok to travel so soon after surgery. If he says no, I'd have him write a letter to your boss telling him you can't for medical reasons. If your surgeon says yes, keep in mind he'll likely want you stopping and walking every hour or so you don't risk a blood clot by traveling so soon after surgery.

As for the time off for the surgery, it sucks but he's requiring is pretty common. But, unless your surgeon is hours away, you shouldn't need a day off just for post op visits and fills. The visits are usually very quick- including fills. A couple hours should be more than enough.

Best wishes.

Hello, my surgeon is two hours away so unfortunately even if I have a 4 PM appointment , I have to leave work at 1:30.

Thanks,

Summer

Traveling a week after surgery would have been a concern for me. Talk to your doctor about this, you might want to reschedule your procedure as I am sure that if your boss is making you use sick or vacation time, he or she isn't going to be happy if you ask to cancel the trip. You have to prioritize - no matter how badly you want your band, you need your job more at this time.

Don't worry about the fills and after care visits, unless you have a long way to travel, there is no reason those can't be done on your lunch break. That's what I do. They aren't a big deal at all.

I just saw your post about your surgeon being 2 hours away. Is there another facility you could get your fills done?

I've had this scheduled for 2 months. It isn't mandatory that I travel, my boss just wants it. I can't delay it for personal reasons.

My surgery was on a thursday i was back at wrk tuesday morning.

The liquid pain meds the surgeon prescribed was hard to find so i chewed cvs brand tylenol for the discomfort.

And it worked perfectly!

By Saturday i was driving around town and grocery shopping and back to my old self and by Tuesday when i got to wrk only the gas pains were lingering.

Lap Band while it is a pretty serious procedure isnt as intrusive as the sleeve and all the other wls

Im no doctor and everybodys different but i believe you'll be just fine *Smile

Hi I am commenting on the traveling part. Today I was coming home on the plane and of course I was waking a bit slow and I had a band aid where my needle was so the stewardess asked what happened. Next thing I know they are not letting me fly. Apparently with airlines you need a dr letter saying your medically cleared to fly. I didn't know this and my dr hasn't had to do many of them. ( I guess it all depends on who you get as your stewardess) needless to say I got the letter within the hour and I was able to catch the next flight.

This is just a heads up. I would hate for that to happen to anyone it put my day in shambles and all I wanted to do is go home.

Ash

Sorry I forgot to say it is policy apparently to not allow clients to fly until 10days after surgery without. Letter

Maybe not for "personal" reasons, but certainly for MEDICAL ones.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
