I have a few years ago. The bad...caused my montlhy visitor to last about 3 months straight. The good......my montlhy visitor dissapeared completely for about 2.5 years. If you have any questions, I may be able to help.

I had depo for years after my son was born. The quarterly Dr visits were a pain so i switched to the iud with the same medicine. I love not having a monthly visitor....

I was on it many years ago but had problems with reoccuring precancerous cells on my cervix. I went off the Depo and never had a problem since.

When I went to my OB last year about birth control, she specifically said she wouldn't put me on Depo because of the massive weight gain it can cause.

Just my experience.

It may give side effects at first, but then taper off. I was ok with the depo shots for about 6 or 7 years.

I switched to a regular IUD 6 years ago and love it. No medication or side effects and can come out any time.

I was on depo, and it totally screwed up my system. There were only a handful of days that i DIDN'T have my period during the year i was on it. My skin broke out, gained weight, ruined my thyroid, among other issues. I've never heard of anyone with a good experience on it, although not all were as extreme as my issues.

Was on it after my 2nd child. Thought it was great not having a period , Even though in the back of my head I always thought that wasn't "right" , but It was great. Then started having serious eye problems after about 2 years. Eye doc couldn't figure out why my pressures were so high and said I was going to have to be on drops for the rest of my life. After moving to another state and trying to find a new gyno. I missed my shot. Took over a year to get my period again and more importantly I went into a withdrawl causing me to miss nearly 2 months of work. I was a mess!!!! Emotionally thought I was going to wind up in an institution. Finally saw a new gyno she explained the pros and cons and the office of 5 doctors DO NOT recommend the Depo shot. They've seen way too many side effects. Inknow everyone reacts different and this was just my story. Good luck with whatever u choose:) ...oh ANd when I went off the shot I lost 35lbs!!! Weight gain was horrible. OH and the pressure in my eyes went back to normal as well.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
