For the past 3 weeks i have been loosing more hair then usual. I'm starting to really freak out. I have lost about half of my hair now :( I talked to my nutritionist twice about this topic before surgery and believe it or not i got two different answers. 1 answer was i will go through one major cycle of Hair loss but it will grow back and she said there was no magical Vitamin i could take to stop it. Story # 2 was the week of surgery she asked if i had anything that concerned me i told her hair loss and she said you wont have any hair loss due to the fact that your weight loss will be slow. I looked at her like she was crazy and told her what she told me the first time we spoke and she told my i must have spoken to one of her interns that she would never say that. (she was what i like to call crazy town) with all that being said what should i do. I take my daily Vitamins, i make sure i get my Protein in. Has this happen to any one else.

I read on other posts that people mentioned using the nioxin treatment system. I just bought some as a preventative measure. It's the cleanser, conditioner and scalp treatment, I figure it can't hurt!

I've been fortunate. I have not been losing any hair yet. Did your nutritionist mention a Vitamin deficiency perhaps? What Vitamins are you using?

Both my husband and I have experienced hair loss and we are not losing weight fast at all. I know every surgery has it's draw backs when it comes to Hair loss. Anesthesia has something to do with it. I have had several surgeries over the years for different things, and I have had hair fall but nothing like it seems to be now.

I made an appointment with my PCP for a full blood work up just to be sure that I am not having some kind of Vitamin deficiency. I have been feeling very fatigued lately as well, so it's something I feel I need to check out.

My hubby noticed right away he was losing more hair, a couple of friends who know him to have hair when his Dad and brother are pretty bald asked him if he was losing his hair. Needless to say that didn't go over well with him.

We have been taking Biotin supplement, but not really any hair treatment system. I have long thick hair that is now thin and fragile so that's a first for me. Most people don't notice the loss but I most definitely do. Especially in the shower and on the pillow!

I went through a period of hair loss last summer. My dermatologist told me it was from a change in meds and a weight loss (that didn't last, of course). She told me that I could use the nioxin treatments. But she also suggested including Biotin in my Vitamins. So, I switched Multivitamins to one with Biotin and I noticed a change. So, maybe you could visit a dermatologist to make sure nothing else is going on. That is what my primary care provider suggested last summer.

I did not choose to use the nioxin treatments. Instead, i've been using a new Redkin line of hair care products called Intra Force. It's aimed at women with thinning hair. I LOVE it. My hair stylist gets it for me, but I first bought it at Ulta (if you have one of those nearby). My hair is doing very well. Of course, my surgery date is next month, so I'm prepared for another round of Hair loss. But, this time I have tools to battle it :) Good luck!

Yes, this happened to me. Although shampoos and treatments are good for your hair, it doesnt help with the way your hair grows or prevent Hair loss. Most people (including myself) that suffer from hair loss do not realize that it comes from our nutrition. Now that I learned more about Vitamins and I am taking the right kind, my hair is thick and healthy again!!!

Most people purchase ANY Vitamins on the shelves and do not know that in order for a Vitamin to work, it needs to be 100% absorbant. MOST vitamins are not absorbant and basically, you are just swallowing a pill or crushing a pill. This goes for crewables too.

Test you Multivitamin at home by putting one pill in vinegar and Water and see how long it takes to dissolve. If it is not completely dissolved in less than 30 mins, then your vitamins is not working for you.

The vinegar acts like your stomach acids. The purpose of a Multivitamins is supposed to dissolve with our stomach acids in less than 30 mins, and our body absorbs it. If is doesnt, contact me and I will guide you in the right directions.

Everyone on this blog should try this test.

Hi Holly. I've been losing my hair for a while now and it's pretty thin at this point. I was banded in January and am down 83 lbs. so while the weight loss is significant, it wasn't so quick that it would explain the hair loss. Plus I still need to lose another 35 or so so it's not like I'm starving myself or anything like that.

I've spoken with the nutritionist and I am taking my multivitamins and Calcium as usual but have now added Biotin and an Iron supplement. I've also upped my protein...am taking a scoop of the powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury and that gets me up to about 70-80 grams. I was closer to 50-60 and she said that wasn't enough. I'm going for bloodwork so they can see if I need anything further but I've also been assured that using this regimen, it will stop and start to grow back. Good luck...I know how horrifying it is to have this happen. When I was able to see my scalp, I freaked. Oh...I was also told to wash my hair every other day, not daily.

Never had much of a problem with Hair loss, but then I have very thick hair that sometimes the barber has to thin my hair.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
