Question... Opinions ..?

I went to my surgeon in Feb 2013 and now I'm going back next week (post 6 month program) I don't remember how much I weighed but I think since Feb I've gained some weight. I've been battling 5-7lbs (which is actually an amazing improvement for me since I could easily gain 50lbs in a year if I'm not careful...) anyway... At this appointment I was told they will either clear me for surgery and call insurance for approval or they will require I do a few months of supervised diet.

Do you think if I show a weight gain at all that I'm going to have to do more diet classes, or do you think I'll be ok? I'm so nervous.. This whole process has felt like its taken years and I'm just ready to be banded and start my new life!!! I know that it's a tool and I know how I should eat but without the tool it's so hard to feel satisfied so I eat too much. Hence the weight battle..

Nervous!!! Anxious!!

Did they want you to lose weight before they would schedule your surgery date? Or was this a 6 month program requested by your insurance company?

If it was requested by the insurance company, did they ask for just a six month supervised diet plan? If so then you should be fine. Even with a moderate gain, you should be cleared to move forward for surgery.

If the Dr. or the insurance company wanted you to lose a certain amount before the surgery that could delay things for you a bit.

My insurance company wanted a 6 month supervised diet, but didn't require any pre-set amount off loss or penalize for any gain.

I really didn't start losing weight until the pre-op diet 2 weeks before my surgery.

You can contact your insurance company directly to see if they have any requirements for approval.

It was just insurance related 6 month plan. I was never told I had to lose a certain amount.

Hi Lauren, I am right there with you -- awaiting a date and worrying over insurance approval, etc. Hard not to over-think everything! My insurance company does not require a six-month process but BMI has to be 40 or an appeal process is required (and could fail). So I've been bulking up a bit on purpose -- can you believe that? Ridiculous! I think I will find out on Wednesday whether it's all a go and hopefully I'll be given a surgery date. Like you, I feel SO READY!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
