I'm a teacher - I needed a solid two weeks before I could go back.

I had surgery on a Friday afternoon and returned to work 10 days later. Along with the LapBand I had a Hiatal Hernia repair. My doc advised me the recovery would be longer and a bit more painful due to this.

Good luck with recovery!

Now the Tummy Tuck (with flank Lipo and a breast reduction and lift) whoa! I'm almost 5 weeks post op and would still be laying in bed if I'd had the time to take off work. The recovery has been painful and exhausting. My Plastic Surgeon has yet to release me to do any lifting or anything strenuous. He says most patients take a full 6 weeks off work if possible. He was shocked I went back to work after 9 days but agreed as long as I did 99% of my work at my desk.

I obliged, well maybe partially. I'd say 65-70% was done behind my desk. I'm too much of a busy body.

Something else to think about... I had surgery on December 23, 2011. My pre-op diet started two weeks before that and I couldn't eat anything of substance until the third week of January. While I didn't mind missing all the Holiday food everyone wondered what was wrong with me. I ended up skipping most gatherings to avoid the questions as I am one of those Bandsters that chose not to share with everyone. Only 6 people know.

I had surgery on a Tuesday and spend 1 night in the hospital. I was fine by the time I went back to work Monday--but maybe a little tired. I felt more normal on day 4-5 after surgery. The worst was the gas on the 1st night and the sore port area for about a week.

Hi there' date=' I'm trying to schedule my surgery and would like some input about how long it took you before you went back to work. So, how many days did you need to be out and what kind of job did you have? My surgeon says it's possible to be banded on a Friday and go back to work Mon or Tues if it's a desk job. What do you think? PS I'm a teacher, and no, I'm not waiting til summer again. Thanks for your input![/quote']

I had my surgery on 8/12 and went back to work on 8/20 without any problems at all, thank goodness!!

This topic is so helpful. One of my major concerns is when I would be able to return to work. I would love to stay home 2-3 weeks and my company would definately pay for it but I am trying to get a promotion and things are tricky right now. I have my surgery on Tuesday Sept 3rd and I was hoping to be back to work on that next Monday the 9th. That gives me 6 days including the surgery day. Also, I really need to be driving 2 days after surgery......has anyone had any issue with that?

I had my procedure on 7-31 and taken leave (std/fml) from work. I return on 8-28. 4 wks is the maximum time allowed for the LB. in all honesty I could have returned after one full week. But this is my first major surgery and wanted to give my body time to heal and not rush it

I went back one week after. I could have benefited from an additional 2 days off. My incisions were bothered by wearing real clothes and sitting up at my desk all day.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
