It will come back... meanwhile try 5000 mg of Biotin daily. It helped me.

My hair starting falling out around 4 months too. I know a lot of people swear by the Biotin but I was told it really wasn't going to help much since the hair follicles were already at the cycle to fall out. Mine is starting to grow back after 3 months of falling out so just keep up on eating your Protein and you could try using this Shampoo and conditioner. http://www.target.com/p/organix-thick-full-biotin-collagen-shampoo-13oz/-/A-14462805?ref=tgt_adv_XSG10001&AFID=Google_PLA_df&LNM=%7C14462805&CPNG=Health+Beauty&kpid=14462805&LID=PA&ci_src=17588969&ci_sku=14462805&gclid=COiH9Z-6irkCFcef4Aod4yoA9g

I'm cutting my hair off tomorrow I have so much hair falling out and the breakage is ridiculous. But it's ok it's just hair and now that my face is thinner it will be ok. I'm upset a little but the 70 pounds I have lost so far makes it worth it!!!!

I did the same. Cut it off. Growing back now. Banded nov 6,2012. At my goal but thin hair. No regrets!

I feel like I am losing more hair than I used to as well. When I shower it seems like I get a big hair ball every time then even more comes out when I brush it. :( I eat healthier now than I ever have so I don't understand why this happens. Has anyone received an explanation? It can't be Protein related because I get 80-120 grams per day and came nowhere near that prior to being banded.

Sometimes it has nothing to do with how well you are eating, it happens to some of us and not others from the surgery and weight loss. My surgeon put me on several Vitamins for three months and it stopped falling out. It has completely grown back. He also said that your hair grows on a seven month cycle. Ask you NUT to see if they have the Vitamin program, if not PM me and I can spell it our for you. It is touch, a different pill every two hours during the day for three months. Or try the Biotin and see if it works for you.

I am so glad that I am not the only one freaking out about this. I have always had a thick luxurious head of hair. I am shedding so much hair that I am not sure why I am not bald yet. I was banded exactly three months ago. I eat so much better and so much more Protein than before the banding. I am going for a folate and B12 test in the morning. I thought I was on good Vitamins from GNC but maybe it is not good enough. I didnt even take a Vitamin before the banding! What vitamins are you all on?

So why would one's hair fall out? I don't understand.

Sometimes it is from the change in diet, the surgery itself (any major surgery) and the change in your body from the extreme weight loss. Everyone's body handles it differently. Not everyone will have Hair loss. That is why increased Protein works for some and additional other Vitamins works for others. I had to do the funky Vitamin routine as a lower protein intake has not shown co it used problems. Let your doctor know and they will help you.

Thanks for the reply. I had never heard of this before but have seen several posting on here regarding it. I just didn't know why that happened. Again thank u for responding.

I had major hair loss and thinning about 3 months post op and started taking Biotin about 3 weeks ago. What a difference!! I am still taking B12 at the docs but only every three weeks (was weekly). I know everyone is different but I feel the Biotin (5000mg) once daily gas slowed my Hair loss way down. I was emptying my brush every minting but now can go several days without having to empty it.

Best to you!

My surgery is scheduled for October and Hair loss has been scary for me to think about. Has anybody's hair gotten so thin that people can notice or is something that you notice on yourself? I'm so nervous about this and stuck episodes that I'm starting to have anxiety over it. You are all an inspiration to me and I appreciate how everyone shares. Thanks!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
