This may sound negative to some, but... I have been researching weight loss surgery for about 2 years and just recently decided lap band is the right option for me. Looks like I am tentatively scheduled for 9/27/13 to be banded. However, even though I am ready for this - I know it's only a tool. The weight won't magically fall off, I'm still worried that it won't work for me.

I still will have to deal with pre-op diet, post-op diet, and exercise BEFORE the fills. So many other diets have failed, if i could stick to eating healthy and exercise, i wouldn't have this problem with weight. Right?

I understand that post-op I won't have much appetite but what about the rest? Anyone want to jump in here and tell me I'm not alone feeling this way?

Living with a band is a lifestyle change. The band helps you feel satisfied on less food for a lot longer. When your physical hunger is sated, it is easier to make the right choices, easier to learn to distinguish "real" hunger from head hunger (eating from habit, eating because you are mad, sad, tired or bored, eating just cuz you want it).

I read somewhere that losing weight with a band is like a having a car with power steering. You still choose the direction, but it is much easier to go the right way.

I went into this with all the facts and I knew exactly what I needed to do to succeed. Even then, I still had these nagging doubts: What if I'm the one person that never feels satisfied? How in the world can a cup of food satisfy anyone? What if I fail miserably, just like I always have on every diet I ever tried?

I'm happy to report, my fears were completely unfounded. I didn't think it was possible but I'm more than satisfied on very little food. I never deprive myself, either. I believe in moderation not deprivation and because of it I'm still very happy.

At the end of the day- it will work for you if you're willing to do the work for it :)

Best wishes

Well, like Ms.73 I think you will be satisfied. You've done your homework and from how you've researched everything you will be successful. Best of luck to you.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
