Feeling Defeated and Need Modivation

Recommended Posts

I've had my band since Nov. 2012. I started out great and lost 43 pounds the first 3 months. But these last few months I have done terrible. I've gained back about 10 pounds and I'm so mad at myself. What are some things you did to get back on track?

Well my friend you're doing one of them now! You’re here and you're looking for motivation!!

I have not been with my band for very long, but I would think a good first place to start is with a visit to your Dr. see if you need a fill, give yourself a kick start by going back to the beginning when you first got your band. Maybe try that 5 day reset by going back to a liquid diet for a few days and jump starting a healthy eating program.

Best of luck to you!

Try to go for a fill, and follow the diet, but most of all exercise.

I was also banded in nov 2012. Look what you're eating. It isn't easy. The band is a tool, not magic.

Good luck

I bought a Bodymedia Fit Link armband that I wear 23 hrs a day on my left upper arm and it tracks (remarkably accurately) my caloric intake and expenditure every day. I have an app on my iPhone that I enter all my calories eaten into and the app calculates the amt of calories I am allowed to eat per day in order to create a "calorie deficit" of 700 calories or more per week. That's what I need to burn an excess of per week to lose 1-2 lbs per week. I LOVE it! It keeps me accountable and motivated! They're kind of pricey but look on ebay instead of buying one new. Good luck and I'm sure you'll be back on track in no time! The first step is reaching out for help and not waiting too long to ask for it. 10lbs will be easy to recover from! Be proud of yourself for knowing when to ask for help/support!! :)

what gets me back on track.......looking at a picture of me (before).....at my well over 300+ self......and then i have a pic in my wallet and on my cell phone of my hub and me wearing a skirt i wore last summer...we both fit and it has room......yeah, need motivation, getting down on myself.....those 2 things snap me right out of it.......even if it seems slow, remember do you want it like it was? NOT..........good job in turning it around

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
