It's normal to feel a bit like you got hit by a truck. You just had major surgery. Try walking around and moving some of the gas out of your body. A heating pad or hot Water bottle can help with the shoulder discomfort but nothing works like walking and getting the gas to move out.

As for the coughing up green, you need to take really deep breaths and expand your lungs so you don't get pneumonia and keep coughing that stuff up and out. If you have a fever of any grade over 100 you should call your doctor ASAP.

Take your pain meds get lots of rest and enjoy some ice pops they are a wonder.

Hope you're feeling better soon!

The walking is the best you can do to feel better. If you were in the hospital that is what the nursing staff speaks of soon after surgery. I walked across the room & back maybe a dozen times the day after surgery and down the block half way the next day, increasing the distance the following day. Follow your bariatric center's instructions, but from experience I know this procedure is not because you are sick, but exercise gets things working towards healing. Good health to you!

I feel your pain. I was there since last Friday. I started to wonder why the heck I had done this, was I crazy?? I just committed to the long haul. You r going to feel pretty rough for the next several days. Don't do anything but take care of you! Today is the first day since last Friday that I see hope. It has been a tough week but I know I am on the right path. Take your meds, embrace your eating pad, get moving to get rid of the gas and REST. I promise that a week from now, you too will feel better. For now, just stay the course!

I am also 3 days post op also and best advice I can give is to try not to go too long without drinking hot tea or broth, that along with the heating pad ( Walmart has a nice xl one with auto shut off), gas ex strips and pain meds and walking every now and then.

If your having a pain on left side like a throbbing, muscle type pain for me it was because I was not blowing in the breathing device, if you did not get one like me, my doc advised me to blow up a balloon. Apparently this needs to be done to clear your lungs and improve your oxygen ( I learned this the hard way)

Good luck and hang in there!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
