TexasKat 1 Posted August 16, 2013 I am 8 days post-op and having a terrible time with my shakes. I have tried just about every idea suggested to me. Thinking of speeding up my diet yo soft foods a few days early. Haven't had any vomiting so far. Any suggestions? ???? 1 Gmachris reacted to this
dawalsh 919 Posted August 16, 2013 Can you go on full liquids like creamed Soups? Ask your doctor or nutritionist.
SolracSpree 133 Posted August 16, 2013 What do you mean by having a terrible time with my shakes? Are you having trouble getting them down? Is it the taste? Post-op for me I had to be on Clear Liquids for 10 days because my body wouldn't tolerate Protein shakes. I was cleared for full liquids day 2 but my body said otherwise. Each time I tried a chocolate shake or Tomato Soup I experienced a lot of pain.
Gmachris 15 Posted August 16, 2013 Yes plz explain what "terrible time" you are having. I postponed my Protein Shakes for a day or two bc I got the big D, plus with all the chewable vits it was just too much. But if it lasts I will call my doc.
Red bird 20 Posted August 16, 2013 I had surgery a week ago today. Hard to believe. The first days were rough, I won't lie. I basically wanted to enjoy my pain meds and be left alone with my heating pad. I encourge you to keep shopping for the right Protein Shake. I use ISAGENIX whey Protein Shakes and I love them. SO smooth and yummy. Stay strong - this phase will pass. I just remind myself that the body needs time to heal and you need to listen to your body.
Jean McMillan 2,973 Posted August 16, 2013 It's hard to give advice when we don't know what exactly about Protein Shakes is a problem for you. I just want to say that you should not stray from your post-op eating plan without permission from your surgeon and/or dietitian. Failure to follow the post-op eating progression is a common cause of band slips. Most of us don't think about what's actually happening inside when we eat any kind of food, but your stomach has to expand and contract to break even soft food down and transport it south, to your intestines. That movement can disturb your sutures, interfere with healing, and prevent your band from seating itself into proper position against your stomach. Hang in there! 2 Isailalu and ☠carolinagirl☠ reacted to this
TexasKat 1 Posted August 16, 2013 Before surgery I loved my shakes. But since surgery just the smell and texture make me gag. Even the thought leaves a bad taste in my mouth.
kbell2011 131 Posted August 16, 2013 I drank (and still do a couple times a week) GNCs Total Lean (ready to drink!) chocolate Swiss. I love them! They have a chocolate milk consistency so no chalky, bland, think texture to worry about! Good Luck! 1 SashaWLS reacted to this

Gmachris 15 Posted August 17, 2013 Thank you all for your input, it was very encouraging . Today is like a light year from yesterday , I feel like a new person. Tolerated the shake with no problems? Now I must work on getting those Vitamins down. I will use these up but then will go shopping for something not so tart! Hope all are doing great on this beautiful day. God Bless! bahuber5477 90 Posted August 18, 2013 Honestly dont worry about it. your body cant tolerate Protein so soon after surgery. I had the very same issue. I went to me one week post op appointment and was so frustrated and on the edge of tears nearly when I went to visit with my surgeon. He gave me a hug and said relax girl, your body cant always tolerate that so soon. Dont worry about it for about a month and do what you can handle. Amen!!!! I nearly jumped out of my seat with joy . Im four months in and im starting Protein Shakes now and for me its going much better Down 54 lbs, no Hair loss, feel stronger and better than ever. You can do it! 2 mandolin and Irishflower79 reacted to this
