Hi

I have had my band for 6 years, during the first three I lost over 100 pounds and was at goal. I started to suffer with quite bad acid reflux but before I could do anything about it I fell pregnant and removed most of the Fluid (still had 4cc in 10cc band with barely any restriction) I then had another baby quite quickly afterwards. Now my youngest is 10 months old so I tried to have a small fill and the reflux is so bad! I had it taken back out again....so it's probably a suspected slip so now I have had a total unfil. My question is has resting your band for 4 to 6 weeks fixed your slip? And do you think after such a long period of time it will work for me? I have around 50 pounds to lose :(

Why is it only a suspected slip? An endoscopy will tell you immediately if it is.

Unfortunately there are degrees of slippage. Some take rest and can correct themselves and others require corrective surgery. There is only one way to determine which is which. Followup with you doc and get some visuals on the band to determine it's severity.

It is suspected as I am in the UK and self pay and it would be very very expensive to find out for sure. I am hoping that if I rest it first I won't have to have any tests done although I will if this doesn't work!

I have had 2 slips, the 1st went back into place after an unfill. the 2nd needed a revision, but not replace to get back into place. Best wishes to you!

I just got a new band because of slippage. Several weeks of no fill minimized my vomiting, but not completely. During the surgery we learned that I also had a hiatal hernia. I'm 3 weeks post op n have not vomited once!

Also does anyone know if a liquid diet will help fix a slip?

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
