lynng 0 Posted August 16, 2013 I have had the band for 2 years. In the past 6 months I have had the worst case of acid reflux. I have had 2 different tests to make sure the band did not slip. My doctor unfilled me completely and said that the pouch above the band is a little distended(I had the test in July) after they unfilled it they said I would have to retest in October to see if it is better(if not the band has to come out). I'm ok during the day but at night I am up all night coughing and spitting up. I am on Prilosec 2 times a day, but that's not helping. the doctor said that there is nothing they can do except wait to see in October. I'm so tired and my whole body huts from coughing all night. I'm trying to hold out until October because I really don't want to remove it. Anyone have any reflux remedies I can try(even though the doctor says there is nothing) . I'm desperate for sleep.< /p>
mbmoore2518 42 Posted August 16, 2013 I had acid reflux for 10 years. I didn't sleep well and I was always miserable. I had a hiatal hernia that was repaired at the time my band was placed and it fixed the problem. I am sorry to hear of your troubles and I hope they find a solution for you quickly. 1 jfc193 reacted to this
GuyMontag 1,264 Posted August 16, 2013 For me, Prilosec only prevents heart burn which is more of a daytime symptom for me. Acid reflux is a completely different beast. I get acid reflux at night if I eat right before bed so I try to make sure I don't eat at least 2 hours before I lay down. You may also try sleeping in a recliner or with some pillows to give you some relief. You can also prop things under your mattress or bed to help elevate the end by your head. Constant reflux is bad and can damage your esophagus. I would try something other than Prilosec for the reflux and maybe even talk to a general practitioner to get some relief ideas. I'm sorry you're going through this and I hope you figure it out. PS - I had an interesting conversation with a colleague just yesterday and she posited that acid reflux is caused by low acidity in the body and the stomach produces more acid to try and up the pH of the body. Her solution was to start drinking lemonade on a daily basis and she said it worked for her. Now understand, this is completely anecdotal from my end but I know how desperate we can get when we're suffering and a glass of lemonade every day isn't a very hard fix to try. Good luck! 3 Irishflower79, jfc193 and dawalsh reacted to this
