Surgical glue? Gas pain in shoulder

Recommended Posts

Sooooo...I had my procedure today! Yay!

I was feeling soooooo sleepy after the procedure, the nurse said its bc of the meds. Anyways I asked the nurse if there was any dressings etc to change n she said no, the doctor used surgical glue. I've attached a pic, so u guys can see.

Now I have the infamous gas pain in my shoulder! I'm using a heating pad, I still feel swollen so I am going to walk around the house n drink some hot green tea.

Any other suggestions?

I had my procedure today too. Woke up with the worst chest/shoulder pain ever. I got the surgical glue as well since I'm allergic to adhesive tape. My main problem now, on top of having a cold, is dry mouth. Are you experiencing that? I can't even use the gas x strips because I have no saliva. I have a heating pad on my shoulder too. Congrats and good luck to you!

Yes, I definitely have that dry mouth I've read so much about. I think I read something about dry mouth stemming from the after effects of the anesthesia. I just keep sipping some ice cold Water but very little sips, not even enough to quench thirst! But that's all I can handle right now. The heating pad definitely helps me a lot!

Thanks and same to you too...we should keep each other updated on our recovery and progress!

That chest and shoulder pain will go away. Just walk as much as you can without over doing it. Those are both sides effects of general anesthesia & quite unpleasant ones. I felt a little better every day & I hope the same for you!!

Don't swallow the gum!!! My surgeon said no gum, as it is likely to get stuck if swallowed. However, other surgeons don't have a no gum policy.

A heating pad was my best friend the week after surgery. I swear I wore a path in my carpet doing laps. Walking really does help to get rid of the surgical gas, and it helps to get the gut moving again.

I wish you all a speedy recovery! Welcome to the losers' bench.

Chest and shoulder pain free! Hope the same for you. Once I took off that nausea patch they put behind my ear, the dry mouth got much better. Thank goodness for pain meds. Hope everyone is doing well.

I can feel you on the gas pain.. I didn't experience much in my shoulder but oh lord in my stomach/crest.. the pain was miserable.. be careful with gun add it can cause gas by the ingestion of air with the chewing.. however if your surgeon allows it have a field day, just know it could aggravate the gas. Ive learned we all have very diff surgeons with their own opinions.. did have a Weston for those with surgical glue.. I was banded this past Tuesday, the 13.. ive noticed that the glue on one of my incisions is thinning and one is slightly lifting.. about how long till you're glue free? Ooo also. I remember letting warm Water run down my back in thee shower really eased my discomfort.. maybe that would help! Lastly the nurse post op told me the nausea meds (anti nausea) can cause a dry mouth, that's how she told me I'd know they had kicked in

Thanks for tip about the gas aug13hereIcome. My surgical glue is still on all if my incisions but it does look like its starting to thin out on one of the incisions. My surgery was two days after yours and as of today (4 days post op) the glue is still there, not peeling off yet. My first post op appt is today so I will see what the doc has to say.

I swear by the warm/mildly hot shower...it's makes me feel so much better and relaxed :-)

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
