  • Walk, walk, walk!
  • You can try some Gas-X strips.
  • Take small sips of liquids. Use a medicine cup to keep the sips small.
  • Warm liquids like decaff tea work wonders to help sooth
  • Ice pops are another great way to get Fluid in while helping sooth the swelling inside.

Feel better soon!

Petmedic, Sorry I have no advice becuase I am pre-surgery, but I would like to ask a question. If you feel up to answering. Besides the discomfort of the gas, What is your pain level of the surgery?

Everything Lisa said - I chewed on lots of Gas-x, sipped Water, and tried to walk a lot. I didn't have gas terribly bad though, so I was lucky. I mostly sat in a recliner that first couple of days (between times of walking around the house). I will also say that popsicles were my saving grace - they were very soothing to me then!

Oh, and another thing my doctor's office had recommended - I took 2 tsp of milk of magnesia those first few days. She said that the pain meds can cause Constipation, which also causes gas, and it must have helped because I don't think I had as much gas as some people do.

Alwayslivelaughlove, I replied to your message earlier so I hope you got it, but I will post my answer here too. Except for the gas, I have no real post op pain. I have not taken any pain meds since bedtime, and have taken lisa's advice and got up and moving around. Just remember people experience pain differently, but hopefully this helps alleviate some of your worry about post-op pain. I could probably go back to work, but I will take the week of paid sick leave!! Best of luck on your surgery!!

Petmedic,

No I didn't see another response, but Thank you for responding. My tolerance for pain is pretty high but I was just wondering. I hope you can get some relief soon.

I am taking notes to try and prevent some of the things I am seeing here. Thank you again !

I am1 week post op today and all I can say is I am glad that week is done. I had surgery on Friday and went back to work Monday. Not a great idea and I paid for it. I have had 3 major surgeries including two c sections and so I knew kinda what to expect re gas and pain. I still had issues with pain and GAS. I don t have any great suggestions but my heating pads and meds were my best friends this week. Just keep your eye on the prize. Commit to just getting thru it. you can do it!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
