I GOT APPROVED! should I start my lap band diet, or have my last hurrah with food.

Recommended Posts

Insurance approved me! now I am curious to see what everyone did pre-diet. Did you have that last bowl of Pasta? that last 40 oz soda? or did you start right away with the restriction. I start my 3 day liquid on the 25th!

Also! I'm curious, What last minute questions should I ask my doctor? I see him tomorrow and then not again until surgery Aug 28.

I AM TERRIFIED! never had surgery! man oh man.

It's funny. Not all of us had preop diets, I being one of them. But my hubs did. He had 2 weeks of liquids and was perfect on it..until the last day. I ate 'clean' but not liquids etc until the last day as well. The last day was like a grieving process. I had this thought in my head I would never eat x, y, z ever again so I the equivalent of a last supper experience. But 4 years down the road and in hindsight I say binging on any 'lasts' is not necessary. First, you won't even remember what you ate so that rewarding experience only starts and ends the day you eat it. Second, you will eat most foods in moderation in the future etc.

Now with that being said, you are about to succomb to a liquid preop diet and a couple weeks of transitionary feeding which can be a bit of bare. So eat healthy, start some good habits, eat in moderation and treat yourself intermittently. This is afterall, the end goal :)

I had steak, mashed potatoes, grilled asparagus and corn last week. Brownies for dessert. My last hurrah, and it was deliscious, and I bet I'll remember it for years to come. :-)

I probably would not have done so if there was not such a list of food that my doctor said I should not eat after the band, red meat (unless ground), Pasta, rice, tortilla. I am sure I can eat them at some point, if I am careful, but the fact that he says not to, had me thinking it would be my last steak ever.

I still remember stopping at culvers for some cheese curds and chocolate custard with Peanut Butter and chocolate sauce right after joining weight watchers too. This was 5 years ago. I started weight watchers the next day. Last hurrahs are big to me I guess. I am ok with it, and I am ready to leave it all behind me!!

I was not put on a pre-op diet. I stupidly ate everything I thought I could never eat again. We were in NY and I had a corned beef on rye sandwich the day before my surgery. It was the worst thing I could have done. I went to the hospital bloated and stuffed before surgery. After surgery I was constipated for 2-3 days, then I had terrible diarrhea for 2 days.

I recommend that you start learning to eat better NOW. Good luck!

Congrats to you. Whatever you decide to do keep your health in mind, and why we are embarking on this journey. It is definately not the end of the world. There will be other days and another place and time to kick back. Good Luck with your surgery.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
