I try to remind myself that being an emotional eater is a big reason why I got so fat that I needed Lap Band surgery to begin with. I also try to remember that if I do eat based on emotion, all it will do is make me feel horrible afterwards.

Then, I distract myself. I take a walk or a long bath, something that I enjoy that also relaxes me, to get my mind off my urge to eat.

dingding that would be me too

Couple things..

1. I get busy so I don't become preoccupied w/ my emotions. Distraction and exercise both are great emotional relievers so if you can do that before hitting the pantry you'll divert overeating

2. There are high stress days I just fail to overcome my emotional state. yesterday was a great example. And I started eating. Unlike before, i dont graze..because that can go on all day long ey. Instead I intentionally eat a full meal. I can't eat much of it afterall. However, if I feel full it really thwarts grazing because it's uncomfortable. I know I'll have probably added calories to my overall daily intake, but only by a few hundred not a thousand. Plus I can usually compensate for it the next day so there's no impact on my weight

Im an emotional eater. How did some you that are handle it after the lapband surgery?

For me, the band is always in charge....whether it's emotional, head hunger, whatever....the band is there making it impossible to overeat without some dire side effects.....

Not to mention, once I take one bite I realize I did not really want, or need it, I was not hungry in the first place...Can't tell you how many times I would buy a donut with my coffee, and after one bite throw the whole thing away...eventually I just stopped buying donuts....

Call it behavior modification, but now when I get that urge it passes away just as quickly because i know it can't happen

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
