akreese02 174 Posted August 14, 2013 I have a BMI of 33 but have type 2 diabetes and high cholesterol. My insurance covers the lap band but with a BMI of 35 with co orbit condition. Just curious if I should even jump through the insurance hoops or try to go self-pay route. Has anyone been approved with a lower BMI and if you had to finance it yourself with poor credit, how did that work. I was thinking about doing a credit repair to see if that helps but it is just MORE money.

Luckily I knew I could pay cash if it came down to it. So, ultimately it was decided that I didn't have a comorbidity. My doc office still tried to submit. Didn't work. I got denied as expected, so I was self pay. Overall I'm glad I tried and I mentally felt better that I had seen all these docs check me out and clear me.
