Recommended Posts

I AM having surgery Thursday and I have done horrible with this opti fast diet. I am so nervous . I told the dr office and they don't think it will be an issue but he won't know for sure till he gets in there. So scared. I am self pay and I will loose $10, 000.00 took me 5 years to save this money. Does anyone have any advice for me I would really appreciate it.

As I posted on your other thread, ask about rescheduling and follow the diet this time to assure you get banded. I agree it would be terrible for you to wake up without the band...especially as you are self pay.

I agree with gowalking. Try to reschedule so you can follow the diet correctly. Take the time to really evaluate yourself, if you are struggling with the pre op diet how will you do with the post op? Or following the band rules?

I don't mean to be harsh but if you are going to spend that amount of money be sure you are truly ready to change everything about food.

I also was self pay so I do understand the financial part.

Good luck to you.

I only had to do one day of liquid Protein Shakes before my surgery and everything went just fantastic. No problems at all. None of the usual post surgery complaints other than I really want to start strength training again and I cannot until after my one month check up with the surgeon. I think any good surgeon would not do it if they thought there would be a problem. No worries!

I don't mean to be contrary skb but your preop diet was per your surgeon and not angels. He had her do a longer preop diet for a reason. Maybe higher BMI, maybe this is simply his protocol. She needed to follow her doctor's rules.

Also...this is still a money making venture for the doctor and I wouldn't presume he always has the patient's best interests in mind. It's no skin off his nose if the surgery does not get done. And then poor angel is stuck having to save up all that money again. angel...really think about this, speak honestly with the surgeon and do what is best for you.

The best advice is to really speak with your surgeon and be honest with him/her. Putting off surgery for a week or even a month is better than risking your life. You have waited this long, so be honest with yourself and your surgeon and see what he thinks is best.

Either way please try to follow the rules that are given to you. They do so for a reason. Everyone has a different BMI and co-morbidities that might dictate the amount of liver fat we need to lose prior to surgery. Some of us need a longer pre-op diet than others, and that is not a bad thing.

During surgery your liver is lifted up and if it is coated in fat, it makes it slippery and heavier and makes the surgery that much more dangerous. So take care of yourself and follow the Dr.'s instructions to a healthier and you.

Best of luck.

Have you lost anything? I would reschedule to be on the safe side and I always advise people who are having trouble on the preop to chew what you want and spit it out - don't swallow it. Then follow that chewed up/spit out meal with Water and a Protein Shake. You'll trick youself into thinking you just ate what you wanted, without doing so.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
