2nd fill but something weird happened

Recommended Posts

Hi

I went in to get my 2nd fill. My first fill was 3 cc with no problem. Today i went in and got another fill. My doctor was gonna out 2 cc but as he was filling me up he said that my band was getting tight and some of the liquid cc was coming back into the needle and could put all 2 cc in it. He eventually just put 1cc. Has that ever happened to anyone? Is that normal? I though my band could hold 11 cc

It does sound strange. Are you able to drink liquids OK?

Just because your band can hold 11cc doesn't mean your stomach can accommodate that much. The band gets tighter around your stomach with each fill. If Fluid was coming back up as the doctor was trying to fill the band, then that is because it's already tight and the pressure against the stomach is forcing the fluid back out.

Thank you for the replies. Yes Water goes down without a problem. And thank you for the explanation about the fill and the stomach. My other question is then what will happen next time i go in for a fill? Will the doctor not be able to fill me up? How do i get my stomach smaller?

You may not need a next fill. The goal isn't to fill the band, the goal is to have enough Fluid in the band to control hunger. Some people accomplish that with a totally empty band. Others have a lot of Fluid in their band. But, the amount of fluid in your band is irrelevant. All that matters is how you feel and how well your hunger is controlled.

Your stomach may shrink as you lose weight, but again, it's unnecessary

Can you go 4 or more hours on a cup or less of food without hunger? If so, you may not need another fill. If not, you may need a very small one. Keep in mind a fill as little as .1cc can make a world of difference.

I had the same experience with my 5th fill. My band was so tight around my stomach that my stomach was pushing the plunger on the syringe back. It happens. He put about .5 ccs in my band and once again I felt a little more restriction. I went back one month later and he put another .25 ccs in and I was in the green zone

Thank you all! Its been really helpful. In a few days ill see if i can go 4 or more hours without needing more foods as i got the fill today. I was also wondering if i could workout pretty hard as i just got my fill today or do i need to wait?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
