Hi Lala, don't be nervous. After surgery you won't be thinking of food. But you still have to eat something bc you will be on pain meds. I stocked up on plenty of Water bottles, Vitamin Water, Gatorade, and tea. Also, Soups. Cream of chicken, miso Soup (no sea weed or scallions), broths. Nothing with chunks. You will have gas pain after surgery. So walking helps and so does a heating pad. The best feeling is burping. Im 1 month post op n still enjoy burping. Lol I now can eat pretty much anything in modration. Mashed potatoes, fish filet (flounder, cod, salmon etc) chicken and even some kinds of meats. If it doesnt chew well I spit it out. I had 2 stuck situations and they were both with scrambled eggs/omlettes. So I eat farina for Breakfast instead. I didnt like the preop diet but I lost a few lbs then. 1 month im down 24 lbs. Good luck with surgery. If you have any questions feel free to message me.

Thanks Penny for Miso Soup idea -- I love that salty broth and nice to have something savory. Putting it on my list. Pre-Band list making is soothing somehow....

.LaLa good luck to you!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
