Anybody start with an excessive amount to lose?

Recommended Posts

I was wondering if anyone started with a ton to lose and managed to get to their goal. I have about 300lbs to LOSE before I get to my goal and I'm wondering if anyone has successfully done so when looking at such a huge amount. It's intimidating to me sometimes, and I'm just starting out. I don't want to get discouraged already!

From my highest weight to my goal weight I have about 154lbs to lose. As of this morning, I am down 20.6.

There are sooo many successful folks on this site, many whom have lost triple digits. Very inspirational. You should also check under the "success stories" area. I go there and read the posts/look at pics whenever I am doubting myself... Our fellow LBTers are simply AMAZING!

Hope this helps!

while 300 lbs. is daunting, many of us have had to lose daunting amounts. I had to lose about 120 lbs. and I am 2/3 of the way there having lost 80 lbs. as of today. remember...it's a number and I see no reason why you can't lose as successfully as anyone else who follows the rules. good luck and keep us posted.

oh, and I see on your tracker that you've lost 57 lbs. that's terrific! go to the supermarket and put three 20 lb. bags of dogfood into your cart and realize that's how much you have already lost. it's quite an accomplishment..

I'm not done losing yet, but I think I've done pretty well so far.

When I got the Lap Band surgery 19 months ago, I had 261 pounds to lose. So far I've 227 pounds and I'm still losing. Only 34 pounds until I've hit my goal. I've gone from a size 46W to a size 14 Petite. In fact, just this week I tried on a size L sweater that was too big but the size M fit. I haven't fit into a M anything since junior high school.

I very much believe you can lose 300 pounds. I believe a person can lose as much weight as they're committed to lose.

Thank you all for the support. I fully believe I can do it. It's just a little daunting looking at the amount. I'm definitely proud of myself because I lost the 57 on my own! It was a lot of work, but I got there. I'm aiming for the 100 mark by the end of the year. I think 43lbs in 6 months is reasonable. It also helps being a member of a supportive community like this one, and having my family being a huge support group as well.

You can do this if you are truly committed to the life style change. I had 268 pounds to lose when I started at 488lbs. This mornings weigh in I was 265. I haven't gotten around to updating my ticker yet. As I approach my goal slowly but surely I may adjust it. Right now I am all about 220 which would be a 268lb drop. As time goes on just enjoying the new found freedom has me focusing less on the numbers.

The way I handled the daunting amount to lose is by focusing on small goals, not the big picture.

For instance, my first goal was to get under 400 pounds. Then, to be under 350. Next, to be under 300 pounds, etc. My most recent goal was to be under 200- which I am now. If I'd had focused on being under 200 back when I weighed over 400, It would've been WAY too overwhelming.

I also found focusing on milestones helpful. Getting under 350 was big because then I officially weighed less than when I had my son in 2002. Being under 280 was big because that was how much I weighed the first time I tried weight watchers. When I got to 231, I was over-joyed because that's how much I weighed when I got pregnant with my now 18 year old daughter.

Same thing with sizes. When I got down to a 26/28, I was over joyed because I could FINALLY shop in stores again. Before that, I could only shop online because clothes weren't sold in 46W or 7x locally. I was excited to get into a size 18 because that's the size I was in when I graduated high school.

Try focusing on the smaller goals and milestones. It makes it much less daunting and feel a lot more obtainable.

sure if you look at the big picture, it will seem like forever

i know that is how it was for me..my dr asked me what my goal weight was and i said i just

wanted to get to 199.......it never even crossed my mind i would ever get there but i am closing in on it..i started out at 336 and went in baby steps...i wanted 299..then in the 280s and so on..little bits...i agree, you can lose whatever amount you want if you (want) to and decide to do it....especially when it gets tough, and it will...that is when the keep on keeping on comes into play...good luck

I will be honest there were times when I was very worried about failing. Failing to lose weight after bariatric surgery was a big fear for me. It is so difficult not to look at the long road ahead. Patience was my biggest challenge. There would be times when the scale wouldn't move for like two weeks and I would be so down on myself. You will have ups and downs there is no doubt. I agree with everyone else on those mini goals and I believe in rewarding yourself when you hit them. Not necessarily food rewards because it can be anything. Week at Disney World is waiting for me at the end.

I recommend you definitely utilize this site and make some good friends. They can help you on those 'off' days should they come.

I have to lose at least 270lbs to be at a "healthy" weight since I've started my journey with my pre-op I've lost 24lbs and I get banded in 6.5hours!!!! I'm setting little goals not just scale goals but exercise goals. Good luck and if you need help or someone to push you I'm here because the word failure and can't will no longer be in my vocabulary!!!

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
