Hi nursejen. i eat out alot and all I can say is fish, fish, and more fish. it goes down easy and is usually a good healthy choice as long as it's not fried and if there is any sauce, it's on the side so you can add it yourself. Enjoy!!

I eat out a lot socially so I googled the nutrition for all of my friends and my favorite eating spots. Anything under my calories count went on the list. So now when we go somewhere I pull up my list and choose from that.

That is a great idea. To have a list of the foods you like and the calorie count already done before you go. I like this.

I usually get a bowl of Soup and I eat so slow it last me through the appetizers and dinner. Desert a cup of coffee.

I eat out a real lot also. I have salads with salmon, chicken or shrimp. Eat the Protein first, they say. I also have grilled chicken at Italian restaurants with a little Pasta or meatballs with Tomato sauce. I do eat bread in restaurants but only the crust parts. I also have Chinese food. I have a luncheon special, eat half and bring the rest home. I do fine with eating out. My biggest miss is lobster. Since the band I can't chew it. I am from Boston, we live on lobster here. Good luck, enjoy yourself. Also look at the children's menu. I have a LapBand card explaining the band and asking the restaurants if I can order smaller portions.

It really depends on the restaurant but I mostly stick with chicken or fish.

I eat fish or chicken. Lemon baked sole is awesome with a side of corn. Or herb crusted chicken with green Beans. Usually the dinner comes with 2 sides, i get my vegtable and get the other side for my fiance which is usually fries for him. And yes sometimes i do steal a fry. But only 1 lol

I know in a previous post I said I get Soup and that is all correct but I have to say that for the most part my success is due to staying out of restaurants, diners, and dives.

I agree I am going to try to stay out by packing a cooler and bringing with me but when I fly I can not. Also I frequently have Business dinners/lunches so I frequently have no choice. I guess it sounds like I will be having chicken and fish!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
