one week out and sudden pain

Recommended Posts

I was banded one week ago, and last night i was jolted awake by a sharp pain in my left rib cage. I thought it may just be gas, but gasx didn't help, and walking has not helped. It is sharp every time i breathe deep. I called the surgical facility, and they just said to take pain meds Anne more gasx... But i just don't think it is gas. Anyone else have something like this pop up?

I would be a bit concerned that it could be more serious. Take yourself to emergency and let them check you over. Hopefully it is just gas but the concern after surgery is that there could be a clot that could cause major problems.

I had the same exact pain. (under the bottom of your left rib?) It is one of the reasons that I had to extend my pain medication. When I talked to my Doc about it she said that is was "relative pain". So during surgery while they were poking around they hit something that causes pain outside of your stomach somewhere in the abdominal cavity. Again my pain was so bad they extended my pain meds. I hope you feel better and that is isnt anything more serious!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
