I have my gallbladder out and since then alot of foods upset my stomach if I eat them I have to RUN to the bathroom. I am 10 days post op and while I have not been eating the foods that normally upset me. I am eating alot of Protein and all mushy. I have been having this problem the last 2 days with needing to run to the bathroom. Is this normal? Could it be bc of my gallbladder and not the band or maybe a combo of both?

Cant be the gallbladder if its out :) Rather, many people have GI upset and either constipation/diarrhea as they transition through the phases. Some of it is because of meds, part because there are no solids to digest, some due to the fact that we are not taking in enough fluids.

You need to google your symptoms: dumping syndrome (form of diarrhea) is common after gallbladder removal.

What happens is that without a gallbladder the bile released by the liver does not have a mechanism to put out just enough bile after a meal. Instead, the liver will just dump bile into the stomach, too much bile/too soon, causes diarrhea.

You should have been given diet guidelines to follow (having the gallbladder removed, in addition to LB guidelines) fatty and rich foods need to be avoided.

You're not eating anything solid right now, so you're going to be running to the bathroom a bit more. I know right after surgery that was happening for me.

Be careful not to dehydrate, and once you start on some solid foods you will feel much better.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
