So I am 5 days away from my 5 month surgiversary. I'm down 62lbs, and feeling great! BUT, I am finding myself over eating, and KNOWING that I'm doing it. I have somehow quit paying attention to the amount of times I chew my food, the size of my bites, and I'm finding myself scarfing my food down. I need to break this cycle, and quick. Would love some pep talk from fellow banders!

I have not been banded yet but isnt the band supposed to restrict your eating. Can you just go ask for a fill? Congratulations on your weight loss so far...that is outstanding!

I think it is wonderful that you can openly admit that you have been overeating. I am having that issues right now too. I am eating the portions my doc. suggested but for some reason I feel super hungry after 2-3 hours. I fear that if I eat again tonight I will stretch my band or ruin my calorie intake. I am just going to reboot tomorrow and hop everything works out. I hope someone can provide helpful tips to help you out.

Yes it restricts my eating, but I'm eating so fast and not taking my time, that by the time I realize it I am full, which means I'm overeating. Not supposed to get that full feeling, you're just supposed to eat until you're no longer hungry. It's a process to get used to!

I think I'm going to do the 5 day pouch test, to get myself back on track and making better choices. I would really like to use My Fitness Pal, but I don't know how to make the portion sizes smaller on that app! I don't really track my calories, although I know I should, and would like to.

It's not an easy thing to admit, but I have to be honest to get to where I want to be! I'd only be kidding myself!

I love the myfitnesspal. to put the portion in it is right under where it asks you to enter the serving amount.

If you're not chewing, scarfing your food down and not feeling the band kick back until you've over-eaten then you probably need more fill. But sticking to the band rules until you get to green will mean that you'll lose even when the band isn't at optimum yet, so it's all for a good cause - you!

Hi knmcd - Congratulations on your weight loss - that's terrific! Have you tried MyFitnessPal? It helps me with keeping myself accountable for everything I eat, you can actually scan your foods in so little typing required and it remembers your foods so very easy to maintain. It shows your progress in a variety of ways and you can add friends if you like. I'm under the same name on there and would be happy to be your pal on there if you'd like :) I find seeing my food consumption in black and white is helpful with staying where I need to be. I like that it shows me the effect the slightest amount of exercise has on my food intake as I don't LOVE exercising but will do it when I can see clearly how much even a little helps. You can write in comments too, like 'chewed lunch slowly' today to give yourself some kudos :) I'm only close to a month out from surgery and no where near as experienced but I find that this helps me right now. Best wishes to you fellow bandster!

remember where you started 5 months ago

why you wanted surgery......start overeating again and choosing not so great items and those pounds you lost will be back on lickity split and you will be having to yet again LOSE them....so DONT

eat your allotted amount

eat slow

take wee bites

stop eating at 20 min mark

eat Protein (to fill you up)

eat veggies

eat fruit

drink alot

exercise

and believe in you.....62 pounds loss WOW---girl is rocking it

so keep going

A visit with your nutritionist could yield some great insights and results. If your band were adjusted properly you wouldn't be able to scarf food but you'd definitely have to pay much closer attention to how you're eating.

imo, if you do continue this pattern, eventually it could catch up to you. Talk to your Doc and your nut.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
