Pre OP Weight Lose -

Recommended Posts

What is everyone been asked to loose before surgery can be done? I have heard of 10 lbs and I thought that was pretty normal. However, my doctor is suggesting 25? I know why (to shrink the liver) but I wanted to hear from you what you were asked, if it was more than the 10 lbs?

Thanks!

My doctor never said anything about how much she wanted me to lose as she explained that the diet was to shrink the liver, not shrink me. Having said that however, I still lost 17 lbs. on the preop diet just based on how restricted it was.

My doctor wanted my bmi under 50 so he placed me on a liquid diet for 4 weeks. I lost 28 pounds. It was tough going. I almost forgot what it was like to chew!!!!

I think it depends on how obese you are.. I didn't have a set amount to lose either but my bmi wasn't that high.. it's all for shrinking the liver to make surgery easier.. good luck on your upcoming surgery

I'm on day 6 of a 10 day pre-op diet and I've lost 8. My surgeon gave me no weight loss goal pre-op, he just wanted my liver to be as fat free as possible. My BMI was only 43%, so I guess BMI does make a difference. By the way, I'm not happy with a BMI of 43%, it is nothing I am proud about, but I'm doing the right thing now so I feel ok about it.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
